Synchro: Pre Junior Synchro Finals Results

Pre Junior Synchro Finals Results are in!  If there was a score for the cuteness factor, every team would have scored straight 10's but - alas, there must be a winner.  This year's champions are the host pool Sunnybrooke who put on a wonderful and well attended event.  Pictures will be on the site shortly but in the meantime, enjoy the results and congratulations to all the young athletes and their coaches.  The results are on the 2010 Synchro results page.

Swimming: Time to move from the dual meet competition to Time Trials and the Big Meet!

Another incredible summer of competitive swimming is almost complete and our young athletes have inspired us all with their performances.

As we do every year, we now shift from the dual meet phase of the summer competition to the finals phase.  This will change how our swim teams will function for the next couple of weeks.  So far, each of the competitions of the NAA swim teams has been against only one other pool in the A, B or C division.  These meets are organized to allow for the maximum participation possible.  This Saturday, August 7th at all 19 NAA pools will participate in Time Trials.  In this event, each pool will try to qualify as many swimmers as possible for the Championship Big Meet.  They'll need to do this not only the other pools in their division but against all 19 NAA association pools.  These Time Trials a preliminary competition which is organized so the NAA can determine the fastest 12 swimmers for each event in each age group.  These 12 swimmers will compete in the NAA Championship Big Meet which will be held at Briarwood pool this year on Saturday August 14th.

For the coaches, strategy for this phase of the summer competition has been going on since before the dual meet season even started!  During the Time Trials, each pool can put a maximum of only 2 per age-category in each event and, with the exception of the 15 and over “Open” category, each swimmer can swim a maximum of 2 personal events and 1 relay.  Organizing the team to put the optimum swimmers into the optimum events is a challenging task.  To do this, the coaches must consider a variety of factors including the swimmer’s best times so far during the summer, the speed of swimmers at other pools and the number of swimmers who can fit into a particular category.  As you might imagine, the swim coaches have to balance a huge number of variables and as a result unfortunately, it is possible that not everyone will be able to swim in the Time Trials or the Big Meet.

If your family's athletes are part of the Time Trials, then in the 2 or 3 days after that event you'll be able to find out here on the website if they have been fast enough to qualify in the top 12 swimmers for that event in their age group from across the NAA.  Only once the results have been compiled from all 3 divisions will this information become available.

Whether you or your family's athletes are part of the Time Trials or the Big Meet or not, it is important to attend both events.  The team's accomplishments are the result of the participation of every member and the swimmers who will be in the water will be greatly encouraged by the cheering and well-wishing of the entire team.

Good luck to all our swimmers!

Remember, the Time Trials are the preliminary qualifying event for the Championship Big Meet so bring your best strategy, your best performance and your best game on Saturday!
