As many of you will have heard by now, there was an incident yesterday at Cote St Luc's Parkhaven pool in which a 4 year old had to be rescued and rescusitated. While Parkhaven has a policy that states that anyone 7 or younger must be supervised by a guardian, it only takes a moment's inattention by a parent for an accident to occur.
With the summer heat coming late this year, it is important to remind ourselves to be vigilant about pool safety in these waning days of the season. It's an easy time to lose our concentration. The days are hot, the pool is busy due to the heat and the lifeguard staff have been at their posts since June.
I'd like to ask that committees and lifeguards renew their vigilance and keep a careful eye out for each other to make sure we can finish off the remainder of the season safely.
